'I barely sleep for two hours at night'

ast year, her fans were shocked when Radhika Apte debuted her baby bump on the red carpet at the BFI London Film Festival. Then, the actor and her husband, Benedict Taylor, welcomed a baby girl in December 2024, and she revealed the news on social media. Did she enjoy being away from the limelight and media attention during her motherhood journey? "It came out because of work, otherwise nobody would have known. I had to attend the premiere, and I was pregnant. So, people found out. I didn't really care though. If it would have come out early or later, it wouldn't have mattered. I was never going to announce that, 'Oh, I'm pregnant'," says Radhika.
The actor adds that she loves enjoying this new phase of her life away from the cameras: "It has been refreshing. I just love not being looked at constantly; that's quite liberating. I'm not somebody who's heavily on social media or takes selfies or pictures of everything. So, it's been nice to not look at yourself from a camera lens."
Ask how her five months as a new mum have been, and the 39-year-old says, "I'm new to motherhood, but it's going great. Being a mum has been incredible, but also very hard." Has she witnessed any change in herself as a mum? She quips: "I barely sleep for two to three hours at night. So, I don't have the time to self-reflect. But hopefully, in a few years, I'll know."
On the work front, Radhika has kept it low-key. She says that not having work during her pregnancy wasn't a conscious choice. "I did not work because I couldn't. There were no offer or roles for me with the body I had at that moment," says the actor, who stars in Sister Midnight....
