Woman loses Rs.24L to cyber frauds
Noida, Nov. 10 -- A 63-year-old woman housewife in Greater Noida West was allegedly duped of Rs.24 lakh under "digital arrest" on Friday, and a case was lodged at the Cybercrime Branch police station on Saturday, police said.
Police said the victim, a resident of a high-rise, is a housewife. Her husband retired from Lok Seva Aayog. "In her complaint, she alleged that on November 7 around 4 pm, a person called her from an unidentified number, posing as a senior investigating agency officer. She was told that a criminal case was registered against her and she will be arrested soon," said an officer. "I was informed that they will arrest me and my house was under surveillance. If I attempt to inform anyone, a raid will be conducted," the woman stated in her complaint about the digital arrest that followed the call.
Out of fear, she transferred Rs.24 lakh. "Hours later, after talking to family she realised that it was a trap," said the officer.
Cybercrime Branch, SHO Ranjeet Singh said, " The victim filed a complaint at the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP), and a case for extortion, cheating, and cheating by personation of the BNS and the IT Act was registered , and efforts were on to recover money."...
