New Delhi, July 16 -- At least two people were killed and two others injured after a fire broke out in a four-storey building in Old Govindpura near Jagatpuri in east Delhi on Tuesday night, officials said. According to police and fire department personnel, 10 people were trapped inside the building when the fire started. Rescue teams managed to safely evacuate six individuals without injuries, while four others suffered burn injuries by the time they were rescued. The injured were rushed to Hedgewar Hospital, where two of them were declared brought dead. The deceased were identified as Tanveer and Nusrat, while the injured were identified as Faizal and Aasif, said deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam. Fire officials said the building was likely being used for commercial activities involving battery manufacturing. The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said they received a distress call at 8.45pm regarding a blaze at the site. "Nine fire tenders were dispatched to the spot. Our teams rescued four injured men and rushed them to the hospital. The fire was brought under control, but cooling operations are still underway," said a DFS official. A police team from Jagatpuri police station also responded to the call and assisted in rescue efforts. "We are registering a case and investigating the exact cause of the fire. The use of the building for commercial activities and any negligence that led to this tragedy will be probed," police officials said.
