Two dead, 14 injured as truck hits divider
Noida, Nov. 10 -- Two people were killed and 14 others sustained injuries after a mini pick-up truck with 16 people rammed into a divider on the New Hindon Flyover in Noida on Sunday evening, police said, adding that around 10 of them reportedly fell from the 15-foot-high flyover to the ground.
The deceased were identified as Ranjeet, 55, and Vasudev, 42, both residents of Sarfabad. "Vasudev, who was reported critical, succumbed to his injuries after hours of treatment," said ACP (Noida) Twinkle Jain.
The people were returning from an idol immersion event at Hindon river in Ghaziabad just when the incident took place around 5.30pm. The vehicle was heading towards Sarfabad in Noida Sector 113, said officials.
"It came to light that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle at a left turn on the flyover and rammed into the divider. 10 people fell off the bridge while others remained on flyover," said an officer. Police were alerted on the emergency helpline number 112, and a visiting Sector 113 police station team rushed the injured to a nearby hospital.
"One was declared dead and others, including one critical, remained injured at that time," said ACP Jain.
