MEERUT, Nov. 28 -- Farmers blocked traffic on highways at different points in eight districts of the Meerut region in western Uttar Pradesh (UP) on Friday in support of the ongoing agitation against three contentious agricultural laws but ended their blockade for the day late in the afternoon to announce that they would proceed to Delhi on Saturday.

The Bhartiya Kisan Union's state spokesperson Dharmendra Malik said: "We ended our dharna and road blockades at 3pm. We now have decided to begin the march towards Delhi on Saturday. They have already started gathering in Muzaffarnagar and will reach Delhi tomorrow (Saturday). Farmers from Meerut, Hapur, Ghaziabad and other districts will join them on the way."
