new delhi, Nov. 28 -- The Delhi Police have busted an illegal mobile phone assembly and IMEI-tampering unit operating out of central Delhi's Karol Bagh, arresting five men who allegedly refurbished old handsets by altering their unique identification numbers and selling them in local markets. Police said the raid was conducted under "Operation CyberHawk" - an initiative aimed at curbing mobile-related fraud, cloning and IMEI manipulation. DCP (Central) Nidhin Valsan said the team had been developing inputs for two weeks before receiving specific information about an IMEI-changing operation being run from a small manufacturing unit. "We raided a place named Aditya Electronics and Accessories. A total of 1,826 handsets were seized along with a laptop used for IMEI rewriting, specialised software, a scanner, thousands of phone body parts and printed IMEI labels," he said. The arrested men have been identified as Ashok Kumar (the owner), Ramnarayan, Dharmender Kumar, Deepanshu and Deepak. htc...
