Noida, Aug. 11 -- The Noida Police arrested eight alleged members of an interstate gang that stole equipment from mobile towers across the NCR and other states during a late-night operation on August 9-10, officers said on Sunday. The arrests followed a brief exchange of fire near the Bakhtawarpur underpass in Sector 97, leaving two suspects injured. Police identified the accused as Abid, 45, Farooq, 35, Faizan, 27, Mohammad Kaif, 21, Mumtaz, 26, Mohammad Moin, 26, Istkhar, 35, and Ayan, 20, all from Uttar Pradesh, most residing in Tronica City, Ghaziabad. "With their capture, we have prevented further disruption to telecom services in the region," said DCP Yamuna Prasad, adding that raids are on to trace remaining associates and recover more stolen material. The gang travelled in Hyundai Aura cars, reconnoitred towers during the day, and struck at night or early morning. Targets included Radio Receiver Units (RRUs), batteries, and other costly components. Items were dismantled using tools, loaded into cars, and sold in Delhi through two associates, Hatim and Mohsin, for Rs.70,000-80,000 per RRU, police said. Recovered items include four RRUs, two bundles of tower cables, two blue Hyundai Aura cars (one without a number plate), two country-made pistols (.315 bore) and two used cartridges. Several suspects have criminal histories, with ongoing cases at Sector 39 and Sector 49 police stations. Proceedings under the Gangsters Act will follow, officers said....
