Noida firm driver held for robbery at gunpoint
Noida, Dec. 15 -- The Noida police on Sunday detained a car driver for orchestrating a Rs.2 lakh robbery, two days after a 58-year-old accountant of a Greater Noida-based construction firm accompanying him, was allegedly robbed at gunpoint in Noida Sector 62 underpass while commuting in the company's car.
The driver was identified as Ompal (single name), 30, working for that company for the last six years. He was nabbed for allegedly carrying out the robbery with four accomplices, said officers urging anonymity.
Both worked for the same firm. The accountant's involvement has not been found yet, they added.
On Saturday afternoon, accountant Naval Kishore, in the first information report stated, "On Friday, around 4 pm, when I was returning to my office along with Ompal carrying Rs.2 lakh cash from Delhi, a car intercepted us. Four men boarding that car alleged that we were involved in a fight, and asked to let them check our car's boot. As my driver alighted the vehicle, they robbed the cash at gunpoint."
Police were informed one-and-a-half hours after the incident. "The duo said that they decided to file complaint after consulting seniors," said Avdhesh Pratap Singh, SHO (Sector 63), adding that during questioning, Ompal admitted he, along with four aides, had planned the robbery.
As Ompal left for Noida with the accountant, he alerted his accomplices on their snapchat group, and they followed the car. He was driving the car at around 20 km per hour in Sector 62 underpass when the other suspects stopped them, officers said.
"Driver Ompal has been detained, and efforts are underway to nab his accomplices. Meanwhile, a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections for robbery and dishonestly receiving stolen property will be added to the first information report," the SHO said, adding that further probe is on....
