Gurugram, July 29 -- A 33-year-old man was arrested from Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Palla in Faridabad on Sunday night for allegedly strangulating his girlfriend to death over marriage, police said on Monday. The accused, Deepak Kumar, hails from Mohan Baba Nagar in Delhi's Badarpur. He ran an e-commerce platform-based apparel business. The crime branch team nabbed him, said police. Deepak and Shiba, an executive with a private bank's NIT Faridabad branch who also lived in Mohan Baba Nagar, were allegedly in a relationship for a decade. She was reported missing after not returning home on July 24 evening. Next morning, her body was found at a hotel room in Sector-31, Faridabad, said police. "The accused stated she was pressuring him to marry her after changing his religion. But he wasn't ready," said Yashpal Yadav, Faridabad police spokesperson, adding that the two checked in the hotel by 3.00 pm on July 24 and fought over marriage during which Deepak strangulated her to death with her scarf.
