Ghaziabad, Sept. 13 -- The body of a 57-year-old woman from Ghaziabad, who died during violent anti-government protests in Nepal earlier this week, was brought home to Harbans Nagar on Friday morning and cremated at the Hindon cremation ground later in the day. The woman, Rajesh Gola, had travelled to Kathmandu on September 7 with her husband, Ramvir Singh Gola. The couple checked into the Hyatt Regency and later visited the Pashupatinath Temple. That evening, anti-corruption protests turned violent after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's resignation. According to their son, Vishal Gola, rioters set the hotel on fire on the night of September 9. Trapped on the fourth floor, Ramvir tried to smash a window and eventually tied curtains together to lower his wife to the ground. "She lost her grip while climbing down and fell onto a pile of mattresses, suffering serious injuries," he said. Army personnel took her to a hospital, but Ramvir was left behind. "She probably went into shock when we were separated. She was taken away but received no treatment. My father found her only the next day-already dead in the mortuary," Vishal said. He also alleged that some jewellery items-a nose pin, earrings and bangles-were missing from her body. The family, he said, received little institutional support. "Locals helped but charged for everything-from filing a complaint to arranging the autopsy. When curfew was reimposed, the autopsy could not be conducted. We had to arrange an ambulance ourselves to the Sonauli border," Vishal said. From there, another ambulance brought the body to Ghaziabad, arriving on Friday morning. A video circulating on social media shows Ramvir Singh Gola recounting how they jumped from the burning hotel. "She was injured, and no one came forward to help. I would warn others against travelling to Nepal," he said. HT could not independently verify the video. Local officials confirmed the cremation. Ghaziabad DCP Dhawal Jaiswal said they had no official communication from Nepal but added that the administration was ready to extend help if the family approached. Nepal has been in turmoil since protests over a social media ban escalated into a wider anti-government movement, forcing Oli to step down on Tuesday....
