Ghaziabad, Aug. 2 -- Police on Friday rearrested a 29-year-old man after a 25-year-old woman, allegedly in a relationship with him, left her home again earlier this week. The woman, who belongs to a different faith, was traced and recovered on July 31 from the jurisdiction of Indirapuram police station, officials said. The matter dates back to May 25, when the woman's family filed an FIR accusing the man of abduction and wrongful confinement. A day later, on May 26, a mob vandalised the man's shop in Indirapuram, allegedly angered by the interfaith relationship, which they termed was a case of "love jihad." Police booked 50-60 unidentified individuals for the vandalism. Soon after, several videos surfaced online in which the woman purportedly claimed she had known the man for nine years and had married him three years ago. HT could not independently verify the authenticity of the videos. Following the FIR and vandalism, the man was arrested under the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) provisions for preventive detention. He was released on bail on June 8. The matter resurfaced after the woman again left her home on the night of July 29. "She was recovered on July 31, and her statement will again be recorded before a magistrate," said Abhishek Srivastava, ACP, Indirapuram. Police declined to disclose where the woman was found. The woman's family lodged a second FIR on July 30 against the man and his relatives. Based on this, the man was rearrested on Friday under the same BNSS section for preventive detention. The second FIR was registered under sections 87 (kidnapping to compel marriage), 123 (causing hurt by poison), 305 (theft), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS. "Her statement before a magistrate will be crucial to the investigation," Srivastava said....
