Ghaziabad, July 20 -- In a fresh development at the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC), around 100-150 on-duty staffers staged a sit-in on Saturday morning beside the ongoing protest by councillors at Navyug Market. According to staffers, including those assigned Kanwar Yatra duties, urged councillors to end their protest and demand the June 30 board meeting minutes only after the pilgrimage ends. Councillors have been protesting since Friday morning, alleging a deliberate delay in issuing official minutes of a board meeting that rejected a proposed property tax hike. "It is our legal demand to get the official minutes of the meeting, and this is being delayed deliberately," said Gaurav Solanki, councillor from ward 76. "The staffers, deployed for duty, are now protesting instead. We believe this is an orchestrated attempt to dislodge us," he added. Councillor Himanshu Sharma said, "They have no authority to ask elected representatives to end a protest or delay our demand." The hike was rejected by majority vote on June 30, but official confirmation is pending. A related PIL is listed for hearing on July 29. Additional municipal officials said the minutes would be issued post-Kanwar Yatra and denied service disruption from staff protests....
