Delhi teachers slam DoE order to clean areas near schools
New Delhi, July 29 -- A directive from the Delhi Department of Education (DoE) has asked all schools to identify and maintain cleanliness in nearby areas under the "Delhi Freedom from Garbage-Cleanliness Drive."
The letter dated July 25 states that since primary students cannot step outside, "staff should go for cleaning outside."
Teachers raised concerns, fearing they would be made to clean. "We already act as guards, gardeners, and clerks. We can't do this too," said a member of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) teachers' union.
MCD standing committee chairperson Satya Sharma clarified, "Teachers will only direct and monitor. Cleaners will be provided for a month."...
