Delhi CM, edu min meet parents to get feedback on new education bill
New Delhi, May 4 -- Chief minister Rekha Gupta and education minister Ashish Sood met hundreds of parents at the Delhi secretariat on Saturday to get their feedback on the government's new bill to rein in arbitrary fee hikes in private schools.
The Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2025, a legislation introduced by the BJP-led government on April 29, will apply to all 1,677 private schools in the city and mandates transparent processes for fee fixation, including mandatory participation from parents and school managements.
During the meeting, CM Gupta assured parents that her government would not allow any injustice in Delhi's schools. 'For 27 years, private schools had been arbitrarily increasing fees without any checks or clear regulations. Previous governments had no concrete legal mechanism to control such practices,' she said while further adding that if any school harasses a student or parent over fees, they are welcome to report the matter directly to her office or to the education minister.
Sood said that the previous government ignored repeated parental complaints, referring to protests by Delhi Public School (DPS) parents dating back to 2020.
Parents from DPS Dwarka confirmed they had submitted complaints over 20 times under the previous regime without result. "But within days of the new BJP government's swearing-in, Sood met us and took action," said a parent....
