4 arrested for duping ATM visitors in NCR
Noida, Oct. 17 -- Four men were arrested in Noida on Thursday for allegedly tampering with ATMs and fraudulently swapping cards across the National Capital Region, police said, adding that 67 ATM cards and four knives were recovered from them.
Police identified the accused as Pankaj Kumar, 41, Dharmendra, 32, Navlesh Singh, 39, and Gopal, 25 - all residents of Bihar currently living in Phase 2, Noida.
The arrests, made through electronic surveillance, followed a complaint lodged at Phase 3 police station by a Mamura resident who said a fraudster swapped his debit card at a Noida ATM and withdrew Rs.50,000.
"The suspects used to tape the cash dispensing slot before anyone entered the ATM. When users faced trouble withdrawing money, a gang member would 'help' them, swap their card, and note down the PIN," police said. "The FIR filed on October 14 led to this operation. We are identifying other victims," said Phase 3 SHO Dhruv Bhuran Dubey.
The men have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act for theft and cheating....
