MUMBAI, Dec. 1 -- A 58-year-old woman from Andhra Pradesh, who had come to visit a relative, died after slipping into the gap between the train and the platform while allegedly trying to alight a moving train in Dadar on Thursday afternoon. According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the woman, Nurjahan Shaikh, had arrived in Mumbai with her son and was heading to Ambarnath to visit a relative. Around 2 pm, while waiting on platform 10, she wanted to use the restroom. "Instead of walking to the public toilets on platform 12, she boarded a Hyderabad-bound express train to use its washroom," said a police officer. After using the toilet, Shaikh attempted to get off the train, which had already started moving. "She tried to alight but slipped and fell into the gap between the train and the platform, resulting in fatal injuries," said Anil Kadam, senior police inspector, Dadar GRP. The Shaikh's son then raised an alarm, and GRP personnel, along with passengers, rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries two hours later, while undergoing treatment.
