MUMBAI, June 13 -- The police have arrested a couple from Ghatkopar for allegedly killing the woman's father as he did not approve of their live-in relationship. The arrested accused were identified as Sonali Bait, 37, and her partner Mahesh Pandey, 28, who allegedly assaulted and killed Shankar Kamble, 58, following an argument. According to the police, Bait's younger brother, Rahul Kamble, informed them on Wednesday night that his sister and her live-in partner had brutally assaulted his father near a retaurant in the MIDC area, which eventually led to his death. Kamble, 28, lived with his father in Ghatkopar. He told the police that his sister, Sonali, had gotten married in 2008 and lived with her husband, also in Ghatkopar. The couple had two children-a 17-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old son. However, in 2022, Sonali left her husband and kids and started living with Mahesh, Kamble told the police. Since then, Shankar Kamble had lost contact with his daughter, he added. On June 8, Sonali and Mahesh went to meet Shankar at his workplace at Marol Naka, said the police. While talking, Mahesh allegedly slapped Shankar. "When I reached there, the two had left," Rahul told the police. Shankar then told him that Sonali and Mahesh were upset because he had opposed their relationship. On Wednesday, Rahul got a call from someone informing him that Sonali and Mahesh were assaulting his father near a restaurant. When he reached there, he allegedly saw Mahesh assaulting Shankar. "I tried to intervene, but Pandey pushed me away and continued to attack him and killed him," Rahul told the police. Rajiv Chavan, senior police inspector at MIDC police station, said that Pandey was arrested on Wednesday night, followed by Sonali on Thursday. They were both charged with murder. Pandey was produced before a court, where he was remanded to police custody till June 15, the police said....
