PUNE, July 15 -- The Pimpri-Chinchwad police on Monday submitted a 1,676-page chargesheet in the alleged suicide case of 26-year-old Vaishnavi Hagawane, naming eleven accused. The chargesheet was filed 59 days after the incident before Judicial Magistrate First Class Alisha Bagal at the Pune Sessions Court. Police Inspector Anil Vibhute confirmed the development to Hindustan Times, saying, "We have submitted a 1,676-page chargesheet before the court today." The investigation was conducted by Bavdhan police, under whose jurisdiction the case falls. The incident occurred on May 16, 2025, when Vaishnavi was found dead, allegedly by suicide, at her residence. Her husband discovered the bedroom locked from inside and forced open the door, after which she was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead. A post-mortem was conducted at Sassoon General Hospital. Among the 11 accused named in the chargesheet are Vaishnavi's husband Shashank Hagawane; father-in-law, Rajendra; mother-in-law, Lata; sister-in-law, Karishma; and brother-in-law, Sushil Hagawane. According to the complaint filed by Vaishnavi's father, Anand Kaspate, the young woman had been subjected to prolonged mental and physical harassment for dowry, which he alleges led to her death. In addition to the in-laws, the police have already arrested Nilesh Chavan for allegedly neglecting Vaishnavi's ten-month-old child during the period leading up to the incident. Five others who allegedly helped prime accused Rajendra and Shashank evade arrest by providing shelter have also been named in the chargesheet. These five have been granted bail, while the remaining six, including Shashank, are currently lodged in Yerwada Central Jail. The chargesheet is based on witness statements, forensic analysis, mobile phone records, and other documentary evidence. The case attracted widespread attention across Maharashtra due to the nature of the allegations and the young age of the victim. Meanwhile, Nilesh Chavan, along with Lata and Karishma Hagawane, has filed bail applications before the court. A decision on Chavan's plea is expected on July 15, while hearings on the bail pleas of Lata and Karishma are scheduled for July 25.
