Ulhasnagar, May 17 -- In a first, the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) has initiated a survey of properties in the city through geographical information system (GIS) mapping.
The Rs17-crore project, which started in April, will ensure proper assessment of properties in the city and improve property tax collection, officials said. The civic body has hired a Nagpurbased company to carry out the door-to-door survey, analyse the data, prepare a data base and maintain it for five years.
"We hope to keep a track of all properties in the city as well as illegal constructions. It will also help in improving property tax collection," said an UMC official.
There are around 2.5 lakh properties, including the illegal structures, in Ulhasnagar....
