Kalyan, July 28 -- The Ulhas river overflowed Saturday, following the down pour since Friday, floodingKalyan, Ulhasnagar, Ambern at hand Badlapur. Kalyan received 231mm rain on Saturday. The connectivity between K al ya na nd M ur bad was affected after K am ba, Mharaland Va rap villages were flooded. Residents of these villages were rescued to safer places. TheKa ly an-Dom b iv li Municipal Corpora ti on(KD MC) disaster management cell rescued 3,800 to 4,000 people from flooded areas. In Kalyan city, a portion of a building nearby Joshibaug School collapsed on Friday morning, injuring one person. A man, stranded inside a KDMC pump house at the park project land since Friday night, was rescued around 12pm on Saturday. "He was on night duty and did not real is et here was flooding. He was rescued with the help of boats," saidDilipGund, chief fire officer, KDMC. A team from the National Response Disaster Force( ND RF) rescued around 150 people stranded in Meridian, River Winds and surrounding areas and shifted them to Sacred Heart School nearby ."We have already served around 4,500 food packets to those stranded and the work is still under process," said Sapna Koli, chief of disaster management cell, KDMC. In Ulhasnagar, thousands were rescued from Panchsheel Nagar, a slum area. Residents claimed that they were not alerted about the increase in the water level of Ulhas River by the civic body. More than 1.5 lakh residents ofKa ly an were also affected by a power cut since Friday evening....
