U.P. man shoots wife dead in police station
Lucknow, Jan. 13 -- A 36-year-old man allegedly shot his wife dead at a police station in Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district on Monday, just days after he had lodged a complaint accusing her of eloping with her lover and taking away jewellery and cash from their house, police officers said.
The accused, identified as Anoop Kumar, was overpowered and arrested from the spot, they added.
The woman, Soni (32), a resident of Ramapur Atariya under Pali police station limits, had allegedly left home with her suspected lover, Surjit, a resident of Shahjahanpur, on January 7. A day after her alleged disappearance, Kumar filed a complaint at the Pali police station, alleging that his wife had taken jewellery and Rs.35,000 in cash with her.
Police registered a first information report (FIR) based on the complaint and after days of search, detained her at the Pali police station on Sunday, officers said. On Monday morning, the process of presenting her before court and other legal formalities were underway.
At 10.45am, Soni accompanied by a female constable stepped out from the canteen on the police station premises when Kumar arrived there, police said. While the woman's relatives were standing nearby, Kumar pulled out a country-made pistol and shot Soni, the officers added....
