Tyre burst leads to pedestrian's death as metal ring goes flying
MUMBAI, May 5 -- A pedestrian died on Saturday evening after towing van's tyre burst and a metal ring from it hit him in the neck on RAK Marg in Wadala. The victim, Shailu Maruti, a sweeper from the area, was declared dead at KEM Hospital.
The incident took place near Shaheen Darbar Hotel on the southbound lane, police said. Constable Vijay Solat, who was on naka-bandi duty, reached the spot after being alerted.
Police said the driver, Mohammad Farooq Shaikh, was towing an abandoned car at speed when the tyre burst. "He was driving fast so the towing van's tyre burst and the steel ring bounced and flew and hit a pedestrian in his neck," said a police officer.
Maruti suffered severe bleeding and lost consciousness. Locals rushed him to hospital, where he was declared dead.
Police have registered a case against Shaikh under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash or negligent driving on a public way) of the BNS. He was later served a notice and allowed to leave....
