Mumbai, Sept. 15 -- The police have arrested two men from Andheri East for allegedly assaulting a 36-year-old man and robbing him of Rs.10,000 last Tuesday. The incident occurred when the victim was on his way to work.
According to the police, the victim, Puran Mukhiya, a carpenter, was walking on the road at 3pm when two men on a motorcycle stopped him near the Heera Panna Mall in Powai. The men allegedly assaulted Mukhiya, threatened to kill him, extorted Rs.10,000 that he was carrying in his pocket. They then fled on their bike, leaving Mukhiya injured by the road.
Mukhiya approached the Powai police and filed a complaint. While combing through CCTV footage from the area, the police found the motorcycle used in the crime and identified its number plate. They learnt that a certain Akshay Baresa, a resident of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation's Adivasi Prajapur Pada in Andheri East, was driving at the time.
The police apprehended Baresa, who confessed to committing the crime. His accomplice, Shubhan Singh, was also arrested later. "We will produce them before the court on Monday," said an officer. He added that the duo were booked in the past by the MIDC police.HTC...
