Mumbai, Jan. 17 -- While dhols, tashas and gulal welcomed winners with tall margins, this one was a nail-biting finish. In ward 90, in the Bandra east, Bandra Terminus, Nirmal Nagar areas, Congress candidate Tulip Miranda won with one of the slimmest margins - seven votes. On Friday, there was high drama at Prabhat Colony in Santacruz east, where counting of votes for wards 87 to 96 for H/East was underway. When counting for ward 90 began, the competition was neck-and-neck among Ansari Masud Abdulkasim (Shiv Sena-UBT), Jyoti Upadhyay (BJP) and Tulip Miranda (Congress). The Bandra east constituency is known for its diverse electorate and was among the closely watched wards. While the BJP-Sena secured a majority across Mumbai, Bandra east remained with the Congress. Tulip Miranda secured 5,197 votes, with a wafer-thin margin of seven, followed by Jyoti Upadhyay with 5,190 votes. Eventually, Miranda triumphed.
