Tobacco baron's son arrested in Lamborghini crash case, gets bail
KANPUR, Feb. 13 -- A local court in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur on Thursday granted bail to 26-year-old Shivam Mishra, the son of a local tobacco baron KK Mishra, in connection with the Lamborghini crash that left three people injured on VIP Road in the city on February 8.
According to police, Mishra was arrested from a private hospital in the city on Thursday, after travelling from Delhi for treatment. He was produced before the court of the additional chief judicial magistrate around 10am, seeking 14-days judicial custody, however, the court rejected the plea and granted him bail.
In its order, the court criticised the police for procedural lapses and what it described as a "shoddy" investigation. District government counsel (criminal), Dilip Awasthi, said the court directed the accused to cooperate with the investigation and furnish a bond and undertaking of Rs.20,000 each. "The sections invoked were bailable, which is why bail was granted," he said.
Mishra's lawyer, Anant Sharma, said the police failed to justify 14-day remand request.
"They were asked the reason for the remand, noting that all sections were bailable, but the investigating officer has no concrete answer, following which the plea was rejected," he said.
After his release, Mishra was taken away in an ambulance by his family to an undisclosed location, people aware of the matter said.
KK Mishra initially claimed his son was not driving. But the probe found he was indeed driving the vehicle, police said....
