Tea stall owner dead, 2 injured as part of balcony collapses
Mumbai, Dec. 12 -- One person died and two others were injured on Wednesday night after a portion of a second-floor balcony at the Kotak Bhavan on Narsee Natha Street, near Masjid Bunder railway station, collapsed on a tea stall. Civic officials are inspecting the building, and an inquiry is underway to determine what caused the collapse.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) reported the incident around 9pm, and issued an update at 9:20 that rescue operations were underway. Chief fire officer, Ravindra Ambulgekar, said that there was a tea stall located directly beneath the balcony. "People had gathered around the tea stall when a portion of the balcony collapsed," he said.
JJ Hospital officials said three injured people were brought in. Hospital authorities said the tea stall owner, 28 year old Mukesh Dendore was brought dead, and Shafiq Islam, 40, and Shalikram Jaiswal, 52, are undergoing treatment.
A senior doctor from JJ Hospital told HT, "They are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital and we are determining the extent of their injuries. The deceased person's post mortem proceedings are being taken care of by the police."...
