Surya, Shreyas to headline third T20 Mumbai League
Mumbai, May 3 -- Star India cricket players Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer will headline the third edition of the T20 Mumbai League, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced on Friday.
While Yadav will play for the Triumph Knights Mumbai North East team, Iyer, who was a part of the national team that recently won the ICC Champions Trophy, will play for SoBo Mumbai Falcons.
The competition will begin on May 26, with the eight teams expected to participate in the player auction on May 7.
"Bringing Shreyas in the squad is a strategic move for us," said Omkar Salvi, head coach of Sobo Mumbai Falcons. "His sharp ability to read the game and mentor young talent will play a pivotal role in our success this season. He adds balance, resilience and match awareness, all of which will be crucial to our team."
However, each team has already signed an icon player for the upcoming season.
Prithvi Shaw will feature for North Mumbai Panthers, Shivam Dube for ARCS Andheri, Shardul Thakur for Eagle Thane Strikers, Tushar Deshpande for Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals, Sarfaraz Khan for Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs, and veteran batter Ajinkya Rane will play for Bandra Blasters.
"The Indian players from Mumbai have agreed to participate in the T20 Mumbai League, which will bring a lot of inspiration and energy to our emerging players to prove themselves on the larger platform," MCA president Ajinkya Naik said.
He also added that the Indian team players will get Rs.20 lakh each for playing this season.
India's Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma was earlier revealed as the brand ambassador of the league.
Dhwaj Haria overcame a 1-2 deficit to beat Loukic Pathare 4-2 in their quarter-final match of the CCI Billiards Classic on Friday.
In another quarter-final, veteran Dhruv Sitwala scored straight-forward 4-0 win over Ashok Shandilya to book his spot in the semi-final.
Gargi Devgekar starred for Chembur Gymkhana, winning both her matches in their 3-0 triumph over Bombay Gymkhana in the Ullal Cup for women at the Motiram, Ullal and Kanji Cup Inter-Club Badminton Championships, at the Willingdon Sports Club.
It was a poor start for Bombay Gym, who then went on to lose their second match by a similar margin to Khar Gymkhana.Gargi defeated Avni Arlekar 15-7, 15-3 to secure the tie for Chembur Gymkhana after their doubles pair of Tanvi Gharpure and Tisha Darveshi had given the team a winning start....
