Student kills classmate in GJ school; protest, vandalism follow
Ahmedabad, Aug. 21 -- A class 10 student of a private school in Gujarat's Ahmedabad stabbed his classmate to death following an altercation, triggering protests and vandalism by the family of the deceased and locals on Wednesday, police said, adding the minor accused has been detained.
"There was an altercation between the two a few days ago when one of them hit the other with his elbow. On Tuesday, they had a fight in which the attacker stabbed the victim. He was admitted to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday night. We have detained the accused," additional commissioner of police, Sector 2, Ahmedabad city, Jaipal Singh Rathore said.
The ACP said they are investigating the possible role of other students and friends of the attacker in the incident, as alleged by the victim's family. Both the victim and accused were in class 10 but studied in different sections.

The mob damaged school buses, and other vehicles parked at the school and assaulted the school staff, police said.
The incident took a communal colour as the accused belongs to a minority community and the deceased from the Sindhi community, police said.
The ACP said that additional police personnel were deployed to bring the situation under control.
Parents of the deceased teenager alleged that the accused had a record of violent behaviour and that the school was informed about it earlier, but did not act.
Police said the attempt to murder case registered against the minor accused following the attack will now be changed to murder.
