Mumbai, Jan. 7 -- With the first batch of Agniveers completing their four-year tenure with the armed forces in 2026, the state government has appointed a committee to provide them employment in government and semi-government organisations and private companies, and help them secure self-employment schemes and financing. A government resolution (GR) to this effect was issued by the general administration department on Tuesday. According to the GR, 2,839 recruits in the Agniveer scheme would complete four years in October-November 2026; the Army will absorb 25% of them while the remaining can be recruited in the police, reserve police, forest department, fire brigade. The committee that will link the Agniveers with employment opportunities will be headed by Colonel (retired) Deepak Thonge, director of the ex-servicemen welfare board, Pune. Its members include Squadron Leader (retired) Vidyasagar Korde; retired district ex-servicemen welfare officer, Major (retired) Syeda Firasat; retired district ex-servicemen welfare officer, Lt General R R Nimbhorkar; Air Marshal Nitin Vaidya, and Rear Admiral Ashish Kulkarni.
