SIT formed to probe suicide of Munde's assistant's wife
MUMBAI, Dec. 5 -- The Mumbai police on Thursday evening formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the recent suicide of a 28-year-old female dentist who was married to state environment minister Pankaja Munde's personal assistant (PA). The SIT will be helmed by DCP Zone IV Ragasudha R and will have seven other officials.
On Tuesday, the Worli police, who have been investigating the case after the arrest of the 31-year-old PA on suicide abetment charges on November 24, told the court that they wanted to carry out a polygraph test and narco analysis of the accused. The police had also earlier informed the court that they had found 28 injuries on the PA's body while injury marks were also found on the body of the deceased wife. The PA's lawyer, Mangesh Deshmukh, claimed that some of the injuries were old ones while he had sustained the others when he tried to enter their 30th-floor flat in Worli after his wife allegedly died of suicide. The accused told the police that he had had an argument with his wife that morning, and had called her several times while he was away during the day, but she did not answer any of his calls. When he returned and no one answered the door he went to the refuge area on the 29th floor and saw his wife hanging, he claimed. However, the family of the deceased has alleged that she was murdered.
According to the FIR, the deceased had sent photos and documents to her father, including a declaration of a pregnant woman in a Latur hospital, dated November 16, 2021, wherein Munde's PA was named as her husband. The Worli police have booked the accused and his siblings for abetment to suicide and harassment of a married woman under the relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita....
