MUMBAI, May 26 -- The simmering cold war between deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has intensified with a fresh offensive: Shinde's camp has begun projecting him as the 'Infra Man' who boosted several infrastructure projects in Mumbai and the suburbs. The assertion has upset the BJP, and its leaders have dubbed the campaign "unfortunate" and against "Mahayuti Dharma" (principles of the ruling Mahayuti alliance). The Infra Man moniker comes from Shaina NC, former BJP leader who, ahead of the assembly polls, joined Shinde and contested from Mumbadevi. "Our leader Eknath Shinde is clearly the infra man of Maharashtra who is also popularly known as the 'Dedicated to Common Man'", said her social media post on May 21. The newly minted Sena leader has launched a social media campaign, naming various infrastructure projects in Mumbai and MMR, and tagging Shinde, the "transformer of Mumbai" in all her posts. This campaign has ruffled the feathers of the BJP which, up until now, had been taking the credit for all the infrastructure projects under CM Fadnavis' leadership from 2014 to 2019.
