Mumbai, Dec. 10 -- The Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) has extended by five days the timeline for publishing the final electoral rolls for the elections of all municipal corporations including Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The final voter list will now be published on December 15 instead of December 10. An order to this effect was issued by the state election commission on Tuesday. As a result, the voters' list will be published at polling stations on December 20 and polling station wise final list will be published on December 27 instead of December 22. This effectively means the polls may get delayed by a few more days. SEC officials, however, said that it would not significantly impact the time table of civic body elections. The BMC polls are expected to be held in the second half of January. "The commissioners of various municipal corporations had requested for more time to rectify the errors in the draft voters. They said that errors or duplication of names in 5% to 20% of the cases, following which the decision to give an extension of five days was taken," said a SEC official. While reacting to the extension Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray said that this proves the mess in the draft voters' list. "The mess is visible. We caught them indulging in the mess, now whether it was on purpose or by mistake will be determined on the day when the final roll will be out," Thackeray said.
