sarfaraz slams century to drive mumbai to 367/5 in buchi babu
Mumbai, Aug. 19 -- Sarfaraz Khan smashed a brilliant century to put Mumbai in a commanding position of 367/5 on the first day of their 2025 Buchi Babu tournament opener against TNCA XI in Chennai on Monday.
Sarfaraz was his authoritative self in his knock of 138 off just 114 balls that comprised 10 boundaries and six hits over the ropes. He retired hurt on that score.
This was a statement knock from Sarfaraz, who was part of India's Test season at home but was dropped from the squad that toured England and played the exciting five-match series that ended 2-2. Karun Nair's experience was preferred in England, but Sarfaraz has shown that he has the mindset to put the disappointment aside and let his bat do the talking.
Sarfaraz has also worked hard on his fitness, shredding kilos to wear a much leaner look.
On Monday, Sarfaraz solidified Mumbai from a tricky position. The visitors lost skipper Ayush Mhatre and Musheer Khan early. Suved Parkar, with a watchful 72, steadied the innings a bit but Mumbai still found themselves at 98/3.
That's when Sarfaraz walked in and, after an early respite courtesy a dropped catch, cashed in and punished the TNCA XI bowlers. He brought up his century in just 92 balls.
With Mumbai now in a position of strength and Aakash Parkar batting on 67, they will look for a big first innings score.
Brief scores: Mumbai 367/5 (Sarfaraz Khan 138 rtd hurt, Suved Parkar 72, Aakash Parkar 67 batting) vs TNCA XI....
