Rudrapur bans sale of meat in shops, eateries on Tuesdays
Rudrapur, Dec. 25 -- The Rudrapur Municipal Corporation (RMC) in Uttarakhand on Wednesday announced a ban on the slaughter, sale and consumption of chicken, mutton and fish within the municipal limits every Tuesday, with the decision set to come into force next year.
Mayor Vikas Sharma said the ban will apply not only to meat shops but also to hotels and roadside eateries, which will not be permitted to serve non-vegetarian food on Tuesdays. "We have decided to observe Tuesday as a weekly off for the sale and consumption of non-vegetarian food in the RMC area. The objective is to instil the spirit of 'Devbhoomi', the land of the Gods, among local residents as well as tourists," Sharma said.
The mayor said the decision was taken after holding consultations with chicken and mutton traders and suppliers operating in the city. "Initially, the decision was to be implemented from December 15, but it has now been deferred to New Year at the request of the traders," he said.
He added that the ban would be enforced across the municipal corporation area and violations would attract action as per municipal regulations....
