Rijiju, Priyanka trade barbs over LoP post
New Delhi, March 11 -- New DelhiDuring the debate over the no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju suggested that Congress would have performed better had party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra been the Leader of Opposition (LoP) instead of her brother Rahul Gandhi.
Hitting back at the Treasury Bench, Priyanka Gandhi said: "There's only one person in this country who has not buckled in front of them (BJP) in the past 12 years and he is the LoP. He speaks truth fearlessly and thy can't swallow the truth."
Rijiju had launched a blistering attack on the LoP and said, "LoP is getting frustrated as he is not getting success. In the 15th Lok Sabha, he spoke only twice. I am a BJP member, but as a parliamentary affairs minister, I appreciate if someone is a good leader."
This is the first time a BJP minister has officially suggested in Parliament that Priyanka Gandhi could have been a better LoP than Rahul. Rijiju then went to on to suggest that Priyanka Gandhi was smiling while listening to his speech.
Priyanka hit back, saying: "They said that I was smiling. I was smiling because they quoted Nehru, who is routinely criticised by the BJP leaders. Today, they suddenly started praising him for protecting the largest democracy." htc...
