Rahul questions govt on US deal; Shah says Cong spreading lies
Ahmedabad/New Delhi, Feb. 16 -- Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday accused the Centre of "betraying Indian farmers" in the name of the US trade deal and sought answers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Separately, speaking at an event in Gandhinagar, Union home minister Amit Shah accused the Congress of spreading "lies" and "misinformation" about India's trade agreements.
In a series of posts on X, Gandhi said: "Once this door opens, how do we prevent it from widening every year? Will there be safeguards, or will more crops steadily be put on the table in each negotiation round? Farmers deserve clarity."
Later in the day, Shah accused the Congress of misleading the country. "I feel like laughing when Congress's 'shahzada' (prince), Rahul Gandhi, stands in Parliament and talks about protecting farmers. The Congress has a long history of misleading the country and now they are spreading lies about trade deals," he said after launching India's first Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC)-based Public Distribution System (PDS).
Referring to the Congress's criticism that the agreements would destroy India's dairy sector, the home minister said Gandhi was spreading a lie that PM Modi has finished India's dairy sector by signing these deals.P9...
