Pune techie brutally hacked in 'revenge killing'
PUNE, Aug. 22 -- The Rajgad police on Thursday arrested three youths and booked three juveniles in connection with the murder of 28-year-old IT engineer Saurabh Swami Athawale. The body of Athawale, who was brutally hacked in a revenge killing, was found on a secluded hill near the Katraj Tunnel on August 19. He had been missing since August 18.
The case came to light when a commuter alerted the police about an abandoned body. Police checked CCTV footage, formed four teams and tracked down the suspects within two days.
According to Rural SP Sandeep Singh Gill, the motive stemmed from personal enmity. "Athawale lived in a building where a girl whom he considered a sister also resided," he said. "One of the juvenile accused was in a relationship with the girl. When Athawale informed her parents about the affair, the accused was forced to leave his residence in Mangdewadi and move to Vadgaon Maval. This led to resentment and a desire for revenge."
On August 18, the accused approached Athawale while he was waiting near a school to meet the girl. Claiming that they needed to talk to him, they took him on a two-wheeler to an isolated section of the hill and hacked him to death.
The arrested adults have been identified as Sangam Kshirsagar (19), Shrimant Gujje (21) and Nitin Trimbak (18) The three remaining accused are minors....
