Mumbai, Oct. 29 -- Mumbai were denied an outright win and full points from a home game by Chhattisgarh batters in their second round Ranji Trophy fixture. In the face of a resilient unbeaten hundred by Chhattisgarh's young opener Aayush Pandey, Mumbai spinners couldn't find the success that they did on the third day. The visitors finished their second innings on 201/3. After Chhattisgarh went past the deficit, and bad light looming, the two teams shook hands. At the start of the day, Chhattisgarh had folded up for 217 in the first innings as the last four wickets fell early, forcing them to follow on. Mumbai's spin trio of Shams Mulani, Musheer Khan and Himanshu Singh picked up all the 13 wickets to fall, but would be disappointed not to be able to push for a win on the final day on what was a fairly spin-friendly surface. Unseasonal rains that took considerable time away from the match also played a part. "In the first innings, we bowled very well. In the second innings, they batted well and eventually the bowlers also got tired. It's not easy to achieve an outright game in 4-4.5 sessions," Shardul Thakur, Mumbai captain said. Mumbai will have the services of Yashavi Jaiswal in their next match in Jaipur against Rajasthan on November 1. Mohammed Shami showed his form and fitness are not an issue after helping Bengal win their second Ranji game in a row. On Tuesday, Shami grabbed 5/38 to help dismiss Gujarat for 185 in the second innings, Bengal winning by 141 runs at the Eden Gardens on the final day of the Group C tie.
