Mumbai, Oct. 23 -- Maharashtra continued to log fresh Covid-19 cases under the 2,000-mark for the seventh straight day, as it added 1,632 new infections on Friday. Maharashtra's death toll rose by 40, pushing it to 139,965. Mumbai recorded 420 fresh infections on Friday. Its toll rose to 16,202 as five fatalities were recorded in the past 24 hours.

As the cases continue to show a downward trend, the state government is likely to provide further relaxation on restrictions. Deputy chief minister (CM) Ajit Pawar said that if the situation remains under control, the state would take a decision on allowing cinema halls and drama auditoriums to operate at 100% capacity post-Diwali.
