Mumbai, June 18 -- Hriday Maniar, a 13-year-old promising talent from Mumbai, held seasoned Slovak Grandmaster Manik Mikulas to a surprise draw, earning the biggest result of his young career in Round 1 of the Aurionpro International Grandmaster Chess Tournament.
Despite a rating difference of nearly 500 points, Maniar played with remarkable poise and accuracy against his far more experienced opponent.
Barring this surprise result, the remaining 15 Grandmasters in fray had no difficulty in overcoming their opponents in this nine-round tournament. The event has drawn 293 players from 18 countries, with a total prize fund of Rs.25 lakh....
