Mumbai, June 14 -- The Mumbai Hockey Association (MHA) has received a much-needed shot in the arm with the extension of the lease of the hockey stadium, situated in Churchgate next to the Wankhede Stadium, until 2046. The development was confirmed by MHA secretary Ram Singh Rathor. "The lease has been granted to us for a period of 30 years, starting from 2017. It is really good news for us and hockey in Mumbai," he said. The ground and its lease had been in frequent dispute over the last few years, which has hampered the growth of hockey in the city. Last month, a government resolution (GR) was reportedly circulated that cancelled the lease and wrested the ownership to the state sports department. But MHA officials had maintained that they had not received any official communication regarding the same. With the lease secured, Rathor said the focus will turn to the association's vision of building an academy. "Our focus will be on the academy and identifying talent."...
