MUMBAI, June 12 -- A 33-year-old man who cheated five members of a family of approximately Rs.47 lakhs by promising high returns on cryptocurrency investments was arrested on Tuesday. The 33-year-old accused was identified as Kartik Sharma. The complainant, Ashish Narula, a stock trader and resident of Kandivali, met Sharma in September last year at a party. According to the complaint, Sharma claimed to have a consultancy company and advised Narula to invest through his company. Five people from Narula's family paid Sharma Rs.93 lakh in instalments. Sharma returned Rs.46 lakh to them till February, after which the payments stopped. When the investors questioned him, Sharma initially made excuses, then stopped answering their calls. When Narula went to his company, he saw it was shut down. In May, Narula filed a complaint against Sharma with the Samatanagar police.
