Man booked for duping friend of Rs.30 lakh in fake investment plan
MUMBAI, Feb. 27 -- The Bangur Nagar police on Wednesday booked a man for allegedly duping a friend of Rs.30 lakh by luring him into a business investment scheme promising high returns.
The accused, Suhail Ayub Patel, has been booked for of cheating and extortion. He was summoned questioning and the polise is examining if he targeted other investors similarly.
According to police, the complainant, Alok Kumar Nirankar Shukla, a resident of Andheri, had known Patel for nearly five years. Patel, who runs three companies in Malad, allegedly convinced Shukla in November 2024 to invest in his business, promising assured returns of Rs.1.5 lakh per month.
Shukla allegedly invested Rs.30 lakh based on the assurance. Patel allegedly promised to formalise the deal and begin monthly payouts from December 2024. However, no agreement was signed and no returns were paid. When Shukla sought the agreed repayment, Patel allegedly assured him that the amount would be returned within a few days. He later stopped responding to calls and switched off his phone.
