Malad man held for duping model of Rs.35L
MUMBAI, Dec. 27 -- A man from Malad was booked on Thursday for allegedly duping a 37-year-old model of Rs.35 lakh under the pretext of helping her pursue a case against her estranged husband and later getting her to invest in his business, which did not yield her any profits as promised.
According to the police, the complainant, a resident of Malad West, met a man in 2023 who promised to marry her and engaged in sexual relations. Following this, he married her but soon cut off all contact. Since he broke his promises, the police are legally allowed to file charges of sexual assault, as per Section 375 IPC, read with Section 90 (sexual intercourse under false promises) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. In 2023, the situation left her mentally distressed and she also attempted suicide.
"Her neighbour, Nevada Putman, assured her of help and demanded Rs.15 lakh for legal processes, which she paid," said a police officer.
The woman told the police that between 2024 and July 2025, Putman persuaded her to invest another Rs.20 lakh in his business, assuring her of profits. However, she didn't received any profit. When she demanded the money back, he allegedly threatened her and refused to repay....
