Lalu's son floats new party
PATNA, Sept. 27 -- Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad's elder son Tej Pratap Yadav on Friday announced that he has floated a new party, Janshakti Janata Dal, for "a long battle" in poll-bound Bihar.
The development months after Lalu Prasad expelled Tej Pratap from the party and indicated to snap familial ties with the former Bihar minister.
Tej Pratap said his new party would contest the Assembly polls on the election symbol of blackboard. The former RJD leader had announced the launch of his own political party on September 13.
Expelled from the RJD for six years on May 25 this year on charges of "irresponsible behaviour" and violation of family values, Tej Pratap also shared the party's poster on his official X handle. "We are fully dedicated and ready for the overall development of Bihar. Our aim is to create a new system by making a complete change in Bihar. We are ready to fight a long battle for the overall development of Bihar," Tej Pratap wrote on X.
In the party poster, Tej Pratap included five prominent leaders and personalities. The poster features Mahatma Gandhi, BR Ambedkar, Ram Manohar Lohia, Jayaprakash Narayan and Karpoori Thakur. The yellow and green poster carried the message: "Janshakti Janata Dal, social justice - social rights - complete change. The power of the people, the rule of the people - Tej Pratap will ensure Bihar's development."
Notably, Tej Pratap did not include pictures of his father Lalu Prasad or mother Rabri Devi in the poster.
"Our aim is to bring about a complete transformation in Bihar and create a new system. We are prepared to fight a long battle for the overall development of Bihar," said Tej Pratap in presence of his supporters.
In August, Yadav had claimed that a coalition of five little-known parties has come into being under his leadership.
Ever since he was expelled from the party, speculation has been rife about Tej Pratap Yadav's political career....
