Hyderabad, Oct. 26 -- Investigation into the horrific bus fire on NH-44 near Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool town that claimed 19 lives early on Friday, police investigation has revealed that the bus did not hit a moving motorcycle, but run over the bike lying on the highway after a road accident. Kurnool district superintendent of police (SP) Vikrant Patil told reporters on Saturday that Panchala Shiva Shankar (20), and his friend Erriswamy, both residents of Lakshmipuram village, were on their way to Tuggali on a bike around 2am. The bike skidded off the road and hit a road divider. Shankar succumbed to his injuries on the spot. While Erriswamy was trying to drag the body away, the Bengaluru-bound bus hit the bike that was lying on the highway in high speed and dragged it for a few metres. Earlier, it was believed that the bike rider was among the 20 bus fire victims. The SP added that the bike had been refuelled minutes before it met with the accident and was hit by the bus. He said, "As the bus went up in flames, Erriswamy fled the scene and returned to his native village. The police tracked the movement of the motorcycle from the CCTV footage prior to the incident and also Erriswamy's phone. He was arrested on Saturday and questioned over different aspects of the accident." A case has been registered in connection with the bus fire at the Ulavakonda police station. He said that forensic experts who examined the charred bus have also indicated that it was carrying a consignment of new mobile phones in its luggage compartment which could have aided the fire. Further inquires by the police confirmed that a trader Manganath had dispatched 234 new smartphones from Hyderabad to Bengaluru, which were kept in the luggage compartment. "The mobile phones might have caught fire and exploded, aggravating the blaze," Andhra Pradesh Fire Services Director General P Venkataramana said....
