Kolkata, April 16 -- Portuguese Jorge Castelo, 57, emerged frontrunner to be India's next technical director with the caveat that the former Benfica assistant-manager agrees to a lower salary. Castelo's CV was among those given to the technical committee of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), which met in New Delhi on Monday. Former India striker Shyam Thapa is the chairman of the committee.

The Asian Football Confederation, football's apex body in the continent, gives AIFF a grant of around $100,000 (Rs 69.36 lakh approximately) for the technical director.
