Jay, Ayush hit centuries as Parsee Gym cruise into Talim Shield final
Mumbai, Jan. 12 -- Jay Jain (159 from 77 balls) and Ayush Vartak (149 from 68 balls) powered Parsee Gymkhana to a 279-run win over New Hindu CC on Sunday and enter the final of the Padmakar Talim Shield.
Batting first at the Islam Gymkhana, Parsee Gymkhana scored 512/6, with Nutan Goel also chipping in with 75, in their 45 overs.
Harikesh Yadav then picked up 6/33 in the second innings to help bowl out New Hindu CC for 233.
In the other semi-final, Dr DY Patil SC beat Young Comrade CC by 139 runs. The victors batted first and set a 261-run target before bowling out their opponents for 121.
Brief scores: Dr DY Patil SC 260 (Aman Khan 61, Suraj Shinde 49, Harsh Rane 47; Devendra Parida 3/30, Shameet Shetty 3/41) beat Young Comrade CC 121 (Karsh Kothari 3/33). Parsee Gymkhana 512/6 (Jay Jain 159, Ayush Vartak 149, Nutan Goel 75, Harsh Aghav 41, Sagar Chhabria 40*) beat New Hindu CC 233 (Varun Lavande 79, Kevin D'Almeida 44, Gaurav Jathar 32; Harikesh Yadav 6/33).
The men's and women's course record holders Hayle Lemi Berhanu (2:07:32) and Anchialem Haymanot (2:24:15), respectively, will return to the field at the Tata Mumbai Marathon, scheduled to take place on Sunday, January 18.
The men's lineup also includes last year's runner-up Merhawi Kesete from Eretria as well as 2023 World Champion Victor Kiplangat of Uganda.
As many as eight men and six women who will compete in the race hold personal bests that are superior to the current event records for Mumbai.
Don Bosco College, Kurla, will host its annual cultural and sports festival, Euphoria, with an inter-collegiate competition on January 12.
The tournament will consist of both indoor and outdoor sports, including track and field events....
