Mumbai, Oct. 28 -- In a departure from recent practice, a majority of India players have begun to prioritize match time over customized personal net sessions as a way to prepare for Test cricket. The latest to join the queue is opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal who has made himself available for Mumbai's next round of Ranji Trophy action in Jaipur starting November 1. Before Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja was the first to raise his hand. The all-rounder is currently playing in Rajkot for Saurashtra against Madhya Pradesh. Jadeja was kept out of the ODI team that played recently in Australia. Jaiswal was picked in the squad but warmed the bench. The national selectors as well as head coach Gautam Gambhir are keen, after the debacle at home against New Zealand last year, for players participate in domestic cricket between international commitments. Jaiswal's presence will bolster Mumbai's chances as young opener Ayush Mhatre is away on India A duty. Mumbai's next Ranji match will be the left-hander's first following the controversy where he left the state for Goa after last season. Chhattisgarh batters were in for a thorough examination against Mumbai's spin trio - Himanshu Singh, Shams Mulani and Musheer Khan (they picked two wickets each) and their fate could have been worse if not for unseasonal rains which washed away a quarter of Day 3's action on Monday in BKC. The visitors are 91 runs away from avoiding follow on with four wickets in hand. Prithvi Shaw smashed the third fastest first-class double century by an Indian batter during his 156-ball 222 against hosts Chandigarh for Maharashtra on Day 3 of their Ranji Trophy Group B tie. Shaw raced to 200 in 141 balls. It is only behind the efforts of Tanmay Agarwal (119 balls, vs Arunachal Pradesh - 2024) and Ravi Shastri (123 balls, vs Baroda - 1985). The 25-year-old was dropped from Mumbai last year over poor fitness and disciplinary issues, but the player's improved fitness and focus on diet is paying dividends. The knock helped Maharashtra score 359/3 in 52 overs in the second innings, setting Chandigarh a target of 464. The hosts were 129/1 with Arjun Azad (63*) and Manan Vohra (53*) battling. Brief scores: In Mumbai: Mumbai 416 vs Chhattisgarh 175/6. In Delhi: Delhi 430 & 196/4 vs HP 297. In Kolkata: Bengal 279 & 179/6 (S Desai 4/48) vs Gujarat 167 (Shahbaz 6/34).
