New Delhi, June 25 -- Union external affairs minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday. The Union minister joined the BJP about three weeks after he was inducted into the Union council of ministers. BJP working president Jagat Prakash Nadda and party general secretary incharge for Gujarat Bhupendra Yadav handed over the membership slip to Jaishankar at the BJP office in New Delhi. A former bureaucrat, Jaishankar will contest on the party ticket from Gujarat as its Rajya Sabha candidate. Bypolls to two Rajya Sabha seats from the state were necessitated after the two seats fell vacant, with Union ministers Amit Shah and Smriti Irani winning the Lok Sabha elections from Gandhinagar and Amethi, respectively. Jugal Thakore, an OBC leader from Mehsana in Gujarat, will be the party's candidate for the second seat....
